Kokanee Salmon seen at Begbie Falls in Revelstoke

It’s that time of year where salmon are getting ready to lay and fertilize their eggs. For those fascinated by this stage in their life cycle, Kokanee Salmon can be found at Begbie Falls in Revelstoke.

In British Columbia, Kokanee spawn from late August through early December. This species of salmon look alike to sockeye salmon, as well as share the same environment as living in fresh water alone. These fish are ‘land-locked’

According to See Revelstoke, people can point out the Kokanee spawning at the base of the falls.

They are also reminding visitors to respect these fish and their habitat by just observing them.
