Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks has issued a bear warning in the lower slopes of Mount Revelstoke.
Because it is ‘berry season’, bear encounters are likely. Parks Canada said that berry bushes border trails, roads and campground, and black bears with cubs are feeding on them this time around.
Parks Canada is reminding visitors to make noise while hiking on trails, never travel alone, carry bear spray if familiar on how to use it and watch for fresh bear signs such as scat, be aware around berry patches. If a bear is spotted, stay calm and never run away from the animal.
Visitors are reminded to not leave food or garbage unattended, and if a bear is seen it must be reported to Parks Canada Dispatch.
This warning is in effect until further notice.
