The Porcupine Valley prescribed fire unit has entered another prescription window, and is planning to continue with ignition operations today.
The public will see some smoke in the area, as the ignition is planned for up to two days, Thursday, Sept. 25, and Friday, Sept. 26. An area closure is in place for the Porcupine Valley.
Parks Canada said the current conditions provide an opportunity to further achieve the goals of a prescribed fire. They said that completing this ignition will increase the mosaic of burned and unburned patches within the valley.
They added that this is important restoring the historic fire cycle in the Valley and enhance grizzly bear habitat, along with whitebark pine.
