The young offender who has been charged with numerous counts of vandalism has agreed to apologize and plead guilty, according to the City of Revelstoke.
The vandal pleaded guilty to seven counts of vandalism, including graffiti and fire damage, throughout many parks in Revelstoke.
The City said that the court orders resulted in a $7000 fine, which may be reduced if the young offender “handwrites an apology to the City, and handwrites a 500-word essay on why graffiti is wrong, completes 120 hours of community service, including clean-up, repainting and parks beautification projects in the City.”
The offender is also banned from attending or loitering within 10 metres of certain public parks, and they won’t be allowed to possess paint, markers or any tools used for graffiti and vandalism for one year. The parents of the offender also agreed to have their child attend counselling on anti-drug and anti-graffiti topics, according to the City.
The City’s legal counsel, Kismet Bhandar told the court that the City could’ve taken a more “punitive approach”, but they provided the family with incentives to get the young offender back on track, and support them through the process.
For now, the City of Revelstoke Bylaw Compliance Officers and the RCMP have gathered and assembled security footage and photographic evidence of the young offender committing fire and graffiti damage between May and July of 2025.
