The RCMP and BC Highway Patrol are warning drivers that winter roads are fast approaching.
They said a cold snap is in the forecast for the East Kootenays, which includes parts of Golden. Fresh snow may also make an appearance on the mountains. BC Highway Patrol is urging drivers to get their cars ready by installing proper winter tires and chains if necessary.
“We want to remind drivers that it is especially important to remember to slow down and give yourself extra time to get to your destination, especially if you are driving outside of our quickly shrinking daylight hours. Ensuring you have proper winter tires, windows free of frost and snow, and not relying on automatic headlights are all good ways you can increase your chances of avoiding collisions,” Media Relations Officer for BC Highway Patrol said.
ICBC and the Winter Driving Safety Alliance are also reminding drivers that daytime running lights are dimmer than headlights, that the weather can change in an instant without warning, and that taillights do not turn on with your daytime running lights.
