Revelstoke Landfill installs electric fence, keep wildlife out

A new electric fence has been installed to keep wildlife out of the Revelstoke Landfill.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) announced today the successful completion of its fence and gate replacement project. According to the CSRD, the project’s total investment was approximately $450,000.

“This upgrade is a major step forward in keeping wildlife – especially bears – out of the facility and enhancing community safety,” their statement read.

The BC Conservation Officer Service and the Revelstoke Bear Aware Society both contributed to the project. The CSRD said the new system is stronger, smarter and designed to mitigate challenges such as snow loads while maintaining electrification.

Electoral Area B Director David Brooks-Hill supported the project, with a contribution of approximately one-third of the funding through the Electoral Area B Community Works Fund. The Growing Communities Grant program funded the remainder.
