Snow and wind warning issued for Trans-Canada Highway near Rogers Pass

Environment Canada has issued a “yellow” snow and wind warning for the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagles Pass to Rogers Pass.

The warning was issued this morning at 5:04 a.m., with an impact level of “moderate.” 20 to 30 cm of snowfall is expected throughout the day and into the evening.

According to Environment Canada, a yellow warning is considered moderate, localized and usually short-term, where hazardous weather may cause damage, disruption or health impacts. Yellow alerts are the most common.

“A strong Pacific frontal system will bring heavy snow and wind to Rogers Pass. The snow is expected to intensify this afternoon and will taper off overnight,” Environment Canada’s announcement read.

Wind gusts of up to 60km/h are expected overnight, which could bring blowing snow.

“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions,” the warning said.

Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca.
