Parks Canada fire management crews have begun annual spring projects to reduce wildfire risk and improve safety.
The agency announced the work Wednesday, saying trails and facilities will remain open.
Parks Canada said pile burning will take place to maintain the fuel break on the lower slopes of Mount Revelstoke.
Crews have been igniting small piles as part of ongoing maintenance work. Smoke may be visible from the Trans-Canada Highway and from Revelstoke, B.C.
Parks Canada described a fuel break as an area where vegetation has been reduced or cleared to help slow or stop the spread of wildfire.
“This can include removing dead trees, dense brush, and other materials that burn easily. Fuel breaks are often created near communities and give fire crews a safer place to work when responding to a wildfire.”
The agency said its fire management team continues to maintain the fuel break on the lower slopes of Mount Revelstoke National Park, helping reduce wildfire risk to the community and popular areas in the park.
No closures to trails or visitor facilities are planned due to this work, but Parks Canada said visitors should check for updates before heading out.
