Golden seeks ownership of Crown land around Reflection Lake

The Town of Golden is moving ahead with an application to acquire about 13.8 hectares, or more than 34 acres, of Crown land around Reflection Lake.

The land is already used for several municipal and recreational purposes.

The largest area includes Golden’s main municipal snow dump, where contracted snow haulers are directed to deposit snow. Other areas include parking and picnic facilities, a bird-viewing site, a pit toilet and part of the nearby motocross track.

The town currently holds a licence of occupation for the bird-viewing area and has provincial permission to use the snow dump, but does not have formal tenure over several other areas.

Town staff told council the province does not consider the Crown grant application a high priority. A final decision on transferring ownership could take two years or longer and consultation with First Nations would also be required.
