Golden Town Council reverse original time observance decision

Golden and nearby Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area A residents will not turn their clocks back this fall.

Golden council has reversed an earlier decision to align its clocks with most of B.C., voting instead to remain on Mountain Daylight Time, or UTC-6, year-round.

This move keeps Golden on the same time as neighbouring East Kootenay communities throughout the year.

Council revisited the issue after residents raised concerns and submitted a petition, highlighting the importance of keeping the region on the same time as the RDEK.

Staying on daylight time means more evening daylight but darker winter mornings.

The Town will collaborate with partner organizations, businesses, regional government, and service providers to help residents transition smoothly.

Town staff will work with School District No. 6, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, and regional partners on safety concerns regarding darker mornings in Winter.

Council plans to review the decision in October 2027, with further input from residents, neighbouring communities, and the RDEK.
