Drug alert issues for Revelstoke

A drug alert is in effect in Revelstoke after green Mickey Mouse tablets sold as ecstasy, MDMA or MDA were found to contain a dangerous substance called PMMA.

Interior Health is warning that the tablets contain a mix of stimulants and that the presence of PMMA — or para-methoxymethamphetamine — significantly increases the risk of serious adverse effects, including death.

Health officials said PMMA is associated with severe side effects such as nausea, vomiting, overheating, agitation, confusion, tremors and heavy sweating. The combination of PMMA with MDMA or MDA increases the danger.

“If you or someone else experiences significant agitation, fever, confusion, heavy sweating, or tremors, seek emergency medical help immediately,” said Interior Health.

The drug alert will remain in effect until Nov. 11.
