The Town of Golden council and staff have confirmed a renewed collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local 2309, representing approximately 45 full and part-time workers.
The three-year agreement, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2026, aims to improve equity among Town employees. Historically, a difference in weekly hours, 35 for inside workers and 40 for outside workers, created a gap in earning potential.
Under the new deal, all employees will transition to a standardized 37.5-hour work week.
“Over the course of five days, the Town and the Union reached an agreement,” said Mayor Oszust. “This new agreement showcases the alignment of both our municipality and its employees to ensure a fair and productive working environment,” Town of Golden Mayor Ron Oszust, said.
Jeremy Denegar, chief administrative officer, said they are proud to take this step toward equity among staff.
“Aligning hours of work ensures fairness while maintaining the high level of service our community expects. These changes will not impact service delivery, and we remain committed to providing reliable and consistent services to the residents of Golden,” he said.
The agreement includes an annual three per cent general wage increase, a commitment to complete a joint job evaluation program while the agreement is alive, expansion of the flex work program, and revisions to provide further clarity within the agreement.
David Hedges, CUPE Local 2309 president, said this agreement reflects a shared commitment to fairness and inclusivity.
“We appreciate the Town’s efforts to address inequities and create a more balanced work environment. We look forward to continuing a positive working relationship with the Town of Golden and providing services for the community,” he stated.
