Snowmobilers fined for out of bounds excursion

Four snowmobilers have been fined after getting stuck in an out-of-bounds area near Golden.

Police said the incident happened Feb. 4 in the Holt Creek area, which was closed at the time.

“Golden, BC and its surrounding areas attract snowmobilers from all over the world. For snowmobilers who traverse the backcountry, especially within an alpine environment, it is essential to plan ahead and be well-prepared for quickly changing environmental conditions,” said Golden-Field RCMP Media Relations Officer Constable Donna Freeman.

“Precautions need to be made to carry emergency supplies, pack extra clothing, a cell phone power bank, know your limits, and to be very careful not to go out of bounds in avalanche prone areas.”

The snowmobiles were fined $575 for operating a motor vehicle in a closed area and will also be responsible to pay for the helicopter for recovering the snowmobiles.
