Revelstoke patients can now schedule surgeries in Alberta

Revelstoke residents have regained access to scheduled surgeries in Alberta after the neighbouring province renewed its partnership with British Columbia.

The B.C. government announced the change March 4, saying the collaboration will reduce the distance some patients must travel for care.

Health Minister Josie Osborne said the partnership highlights how closely connected communities are across the provincial border.

In a statement, Josie Osborne, Minister of Health said this partnership between our two provinces showcases how interconnected our communities are.

“This is great news, especially for people living close to the Alberta border, who will now be able to access surgical care closer to home,” she said. “We are grateful to our neighbours in Alberta and look forward to working together to strengthen health care access in our province.”

The Province said residents of both provinces regularly cross the border for work, school, family or leisure, making cross-border health services important for some communities.

Patients can speak with their primary care provider to learn more about having scheduled surgery performed in Alberta. As part of the referral process, an Alberta-based physician must accept the patient for consultation and care.
