The BluMoose Golden Gravel bike ride is back for its eighth year on Saturday, June 6, in Golden.
The event supports the Golden and District Hospital. Last year’s funds went toward purchasing a second portable ultrasound machine. Since starting in 2019, the ride has raised more than $150,000 for hospital equipment and local care.
“We are deeply grateful for the generous support of BluMoose. Adrian and Lorraine’s ongoing commitment has made a meaningful impact, enabling the Golden and District Hospital to acquire critical equipment that would not otherwise have been possible,” said Brenna Hong, executive director of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.
The BluMoose event was created in 2019 to raise charitable funds in memory of Danya Leemhuis. Leemhuis died in an accident on March 9, 2018. The communities of Golden and Kicking Horse played an important role in Leemhuis’s life.
The event draws riders from across North America with its scenic routes. Participation is limited to 200 riders. Registration is secured through a $200 donation to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.
Riders start and finish at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, following routes through local valleys with views of the Rocky and Purcell mountains and the Columbia Valley wetlands.
Participants can choose from three distances: the 100-km Parson Route, the 200-km Brisco Route or the 300-km Radium Route. Aid stations will be available every 50 kilometres, providing food, drinks and water.
