WorkSafe BC finds violations within Revelstoke water treatment plant system

WorkSafeBC inspected the City of Revelstoke’s water treatment plant and observed deficiencies related to procedures for handling chlorine. The city faces a penalty of nearly $34,000.

Officials said the employer failed to ensure annual fit tests were conducted for workers required to use respirators and failed to develop, implement and annually review an exposure control plan that included the required elements.

“The employer also failed to ensure pipes containing hazardous materials were adequately labelled,” WorkSafeBC said.

In addition, officials said the employer failed to provide workers with the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure their health and safety. The violations were repeated, officials said.

The penalty was imposed April 7, 2026.
