Multiple wildfires scattered throughout Columbia-Shuswap

The BC Wildfire Service has recorded three wildfires labelled as “out of control” near and around Rogers Pass.

The first fire was discovered on Friday, July 17, and is currently 4.83 hectares near Akolkolex Creek. There are no area restrictions. Officials said the suspected cause is lightning.

There are two more “out of control” fires near the Columbia River and Revelstoke Lake, however, they are both under 1 hectare. The suspected cause is lightning for the two fires.

The BC Wildfire Service said nearly 34,000 lightning strikes were recorded across the province during the second half of last week.

Smokey skies are expected to continue throughout the province.

Currently, there are 98 active wildfires, with 11 of them started in the last 24 hours.
