Man dies in workplace incident at Golden forestry business

A man has died following a workplace incident at a forestry business in Golden.

Golden-Field RCMP said officers responded to the business at about 9:51 a.m. on Aug. 17.

Police said the initial investigation indicated the man was working alone on a logging truck when the vehicle moved and injured him.

RCMP and B.C. Emergency Health Services attended the scene, where the man was pronounced dead despite efforts by first responders.

The B.C. Coroners Service attended and is conducting an independent investigation. WorkSafeBC was also notified and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the workplace death.

Police said an RCMP collision reconstructionist examined the scene, while Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement inspected the logging truck and found it to be in excellent mechanical condition.

“This is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the man’s family, friends, co-workers and everyone in the community affected by his death,” said Sgt. Mitch Mercier, detachment commander of Golden-Field RCMP. “We would also like to thank the first responders and partner agencies who attended and assisted under very difficult circumstances.”

Police said the investigation remains underway in co-ordination with the B.C. Coroners Service and WorkSafeBC.

No further information was immediately available.
