Revelstoke Search and Rescue assists injured furry friend

Revelstoke Search and Rescue (RevSAR) had a slightly different rescue on Sunday, assisting a furry friend who had injured herself.

The Revelstoke SAR team was called to Mount Macpherson on Sept. 13 to help a 10-year-old Great Dane that had torn her paw pads and could no longer make her way down.

“Her exhausted owners had done everything they could, but with a dog this size, they needed a little extra horsepower!” RevySAR said in its statement.

The organization said the dog’s owners were not prepared to spend the night and were unable to carry her out on their own

“So a K9 emergency quickly turned into a human emergency.”

“The overnight temps are dropping rapidly around here and layers appropriate for a day hike in 15 C will not suffice when it’s 0 C in the alpine!”

The dog was loaded into the crew’s wheeled basket stretcher and given the full RevSAR treatment.

The team was happy to report the pup and her owners made it safely off the mountain and they wish her a speedy recovery.
