Construction is underway on Rec-Plex Park year-round washrooms

Construction is underway on new year-round washroom facilities and other upgrades at Golden’s Rec-Plex park block.

Much of the pavement removal required to service the site and provide building access has been completed, according to the Town of Golden.

The Rec-Plex Park Block Redevelopment project includes a new year-round washroom and gazebo, along with other site improvements aimed at improving accessibility, recreation amenities and year-round use of the area.

The project is fully funded through grants, including $400,000 from Columbia Basin Trust and remaining Whitetooth Legacy funds.

The strategic location of the washroom will better serve people using the basketball court and seasonal ice rink. The year-round design will give winter recreation users convenient access to the washroom. Once it opens, the old Rec-Plex washroom is expected to close.

Residents will also have more recreational opportunities coming as the former tennis courts will become a larger area for skateboards, bikes and other wheeled activities.

The washroom is expected to open for winter skating in January 2027, while the new skate, bike and wheel zone is scheduled to open in June 2027.
