The Revelstoke Food Initiative is receiving $40,000 to purchase equipment to better serve people who need its services.
The Columbia Basin Trust is providing $309,800 to communities and organizations involved in food recovery and processing to strengthen recovery and distribution through equipment and facility upgrades.
These upgrades include commercial refrigerators and freezers, food dehydrators, improved shelving and storage, inventory tools and on-site transport equipment. The improvements are expected to increase the capacity, efficiency and safety of local food operations.
With $40,000, the Revelstoke Food Initiative will purchase commercial refrigerators and other food-processing equipment for the Illecillewaet Garden and the Revelstoke Food Commons.
“Communities across the Basin are working hard to make sure fresh, nutritious food reaches the people who need it,” said Justine Cohen, senior manager, special initiatives at Columbia Basin Trust. “With better equipment and safer storage, organizations can save more good food from going to waste and get it onto the tables of local residents more quickly and reliably.”
Other communities receiving funding are Golden, Kimberley, Creston, Cranbrook and the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it First Nation.
